
I dont know what to have for dinner last nite. It was cold outside (it is winter) and eating out is the last resort. So open up the fridge and found myself a whole bird of fresh chicken.
Fried or roast? that was the question lingering in my head for a few minutes – then i decided to roast. Found the Naked Chef recipes on the net and luckily all the ingredients is very much in stock.
So I did.
Perfect Roast Chicken – as claimed by Jamie Oliver the Naked Chef.
Its quite a long 12 minutes video – i am a very slow cook 🙂 Sorry if it’s bored you to death.[spoiler intro=”Recipe” title=”Click Here for Recipe”]
The Ingredients
• 1 x approximately 1.6kgchicken, preferably free-range, organic or higher welfare
• 2 medium onions
• 2 carrots
• 2 sticks of celery
• 1 bulb of garlic
• olive oil
• sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 1 lemon
a small bunch of fresh thyme, rosemary, bay or sage, or a mixture
To prepare your chicken
• Take your chicken out of the fridge 30 minutes before it goes into the oven
• Preheat your oven to 240°C/475°F/gas 9
• There’s no need to peel the vegetables – just give them a wash and roughly chop them
• Break the garlic bulb into cloves, leaving them unpeeled
• Pile all the veg and garlic into the middle of a large roasting tray and drizzle with olive oil
• Drizzle the chicken with olive oil and season well with salt and pepper, rubbing it all over the bird
• Carefully prick the lemon all over, using the tip of a sharp knife (if you have a microwave, you could pop the lemon in these for 40 seconds at this point as this will really bring out the flavour)
• Put the lemon inside the chicken’s cavity, with the bunch of herbs
To cook your chicken
• Place the chicken on top of the vegetables in the roasting tray and put it into the preheated oven
• Turn the heat down immediately to 200°C/400°F/gas 6 and cook the chicken for 1 hour and 20 minutes
• If you’re doing roast potatoes and veggies, this is the time to crack on with them – get them into the oven for the last 45 minutes of cooking
• Baste the chicken halfway through cooking and if the veg look dry, add a splash of water to the tray to stop them burning
• When cooked, take the tray out of the oven and transfer thechicken to a board to rest for 15 minutes or so
• Cover it with a layer of tinfoil and a tea towel and put aside. Now is the time to make your gravy

So..the verdict.
I would say its quite good…not as good as i expected it to be..for my taste…but for you.. Entahlah..I dont Know.. but it’s worth trying.

rosemary susah nak dapat..pernah beli but mati.. i’m so not a green thumb person.. kalau plant survive tu kira miracle lah.. :p
Oh..why i wear it on right hand?
A simple answer…during school..everybody wears watch on left hand..and i just dont want to be same like others..so i wear it on right. It kinda difficult at first..since watch was design to be wore on left hand..and to change the dials using left hand is cumbersome at first. 30 years later…its still on my right hand 🙂

Yeahh..rosemary is the best herb to marinate chicken. But sometimes i prefer coriander and basil too..to make more perfect..spread lime juice plus potato bake in foil..yummylicious aite!
Anyway..the chicken was really lucky thot..i sware im not that kinda proper like you when comes to deal with chicken and beef…haha!

what i did was placed the chicken in a big container and put some herbs all one shot then shaken it for a while..

hahaha..jangan kata u..i bila playback vids tu pun rasa funny…the instruction is to “pat dry the chicken using kitchen towel”. Indeed i did..and it looks funny.
